公司英语专业以英语语言、英语国家文学与社会文化为学习研究对象，同时依托学校信息通信技术的优势教学科研力量，培养英语专业人才与信息通信技术应用相结合的复合型人才，从而满足国家经济建设对高素质创新人才培养的要求。
本专业系统学习英语语音、英语听力、英语写作、综合英语、高级英语、翻译理论与实践、专题翻译、英语口译、语言学概论、英美文学简史与选读、跨文化交际学、学术论文写作等核心课程，同时学习词汇学、文体学、社会语言学、西方文化、西方戏剧、西方经典思想选读、科技文献阅读与翻译、通信英语等选修模块课程。此外，本专业还设置通信认识实习、网页设计、网络与新媒体、语言实习、毕业设计等实践教学环节。修业年限为四年，学生在修完培养计划所规定的全部学分并考试合格后，将被授予文学学士学位。
2002年英语专业获批外国语言文学一级学科硕士点，以外语语言研究和文学研究为核心，涵盖了外国语言学及应用语言学、英语语言文学、翻译等学科研究方向。
本专业培养毕业生具有广阔的国际视野、良好的跨文化交际能力、扎实的语言技能、广博的专业知识体系以及信息领域基础知识，能在信息技术、教育科研、国际合作与文化交流、新闻出版等领域从事翻译、教学、管理、研究工作的复合型英语人才。
English Language Program
English major at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) aims to cultivate well-round students with broadened humanistic insights, solid language proficiency and skilled information technology applications.
With a diligent faculty of scholars and teachers, English Major provides students with a wide range of core courses such as English Phonetics and Philology, Advanced English, Consecutive Interpreting, General Introduction to Linguistics, English/American Literary History and Selected Readings, and Thesis Writing etc.. Beyond recognizing traditional values in the English discipline, featured courses reflecting the university academic excellence in the IT field are open to English major students as well. After reaching the minimum credit requirements in four years, students will be awarded the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).
In 2012, the major was granted the right to confer the master’s degree in foreign language and literature. The master program focuses on studies of foreign language and literature, with extensive coverage of fields such as foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, English language and literature, and translation studies.
Graduates generally start their careers in IT industry, education and research, mass media, foreign trade and foreign affairs, with satisfying employer recognition of their acute cross-cultural awareness, English communicative proficiency and sound information technology applications.
